Margaret McNellis

Fiction Editor
Believes dogs have a great sense of humor

Margaret has always been an animal enthusiast, but her spirit animals are dogs, horses, and whales. As a fiction editor, she looks for stories that bring emotion to the page—emotions of animals and their human counterparts alike. She appreciates the playful antics of many animals; in fact, her own dog, Zoey, is known for having a silly sense of humor.

Margaret holds an MFA in fiction from the Mountain View Low-Res MFA, a M.A. in English and creative writing from Southern New Hampshire University, and a B.A. in art history from Southern Connecticut State University. She works as a book coach and an indie author. Her short fiction has appeared in several publications, including Assignment, where her story “Have Mercy" was the 2019 student fiction contest winner. Margaret writes historical fiction for young adult and adult readers.

When she’s not writing, coaching, teaching, or editing, Margaret enjoys giving tarot readings, hanging out at the beach when it’s empty, baking bread, and of course, playing with beloved pets and observing animals in their natural habitats.
