Andi Myles wrote her first book at the age of eight. Her best friend illustrated it and her elementary school librarian “published” it and a copy still exists in the school library. She started a newspaper in the fifth grade and got her first paid gig in the sixth grade writing commissioned stories about her classmates’ pets. Despite many detours, writing has always played a central role in her life.

 

Andi lives in the Washington DC area with her husband, two children, and four chickens. She works as a science writer and strongly believes in the Oxford comma. Her creative work often draws from the natural world—science, math, and the environment—as a lens to color and clarify human experiences.

 

She received her MFA from Sarah Lawrence College. Her lyric essay, Impressions from a Vacuum, was listed in The Best American Essays 2017 as one of the Notable Essays and Literary Nonfiction of 2016. She has published essays and poetry in Tahoma Literary Review, Alligator Juniper, and Beyond Words, among others.
