Love letter to the brown snake under my childhood bedroom window
In this room —
where I kissed the first boy
who said that I had green eyes —
I sat and watched you
watching me
your unblemished plane
your teddy bear eyes
the cream in your coffee
cracks like the parched earth
only on tv
and here
in my window
When I have hindsight
I will tell my children
that I never let a boy into my bedroom
that I never considered opening the window
to let the snake in too
